SEAMEN’S STRIKE.
OTAKI’S MEN GO TO GAOL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. Oct. 20. Forty men of tlie Otaki’s crew were sentenced at the Police Court this morning to three months’ imprisonment, the sentence being remitted in the case of six trimmers, who agreed to return to work the ship unconditionally after it had been explained to them that they would have to work with free labour. These men were before the Court last Friday, and were sentenced to six weeks in gaol, the sentence being suspended on their undertaking to return to duty on being placed aboard. Then they refused duty, and were now sentenced to three months on the original charge of combining to disobey lawful commands. FREE LABOURER ASSAULTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. Oct. 20. Frederick Wilson, aged 25. a striking seaman, was sentenced by Mr. Hunt, S.M., to 14 days’ imprisonment on the charge of assaulting a free labourer. The accused followed the complainant and struck him.
