The building trade in Auckland, as far as the erection of dwellings is eonl- - is in a very much more prosperous condition than, in Wellington' according to a statement made bv Mr W» Hopkirk during Conciliation Council proceedings yesterday. There was plenty of building going on in Wellington;Jtrat if was mostly being done in brick. What the timber merchants .wanted, of course, was the wooden cottage type of building, and. his firm had only bne such job on the books at the present time.
