SYDNEY TRAGEDY.
A MAN KILLED.
POLICE FIRED UPON.

A night-watchman named Datson attacked and killed another workman named Hawkins, and then barricaded himself in his room. He was wounded by the police before being captured.
When a, posse of police arrived Datson, who was on the balcony, fired at them. The police replied, and then rushed into the house and fired through the door of the room he was in before forcing it.

In connection with the Datson tragedy, it is stated that Datson s mind was somewhat unhinged following upon an assault he suffered when employed as a night-watchman and that he was subject to delusions. It is alleged that Datson accused Hawkins of taking - his tobacco. It is expected that Datson will recover.
