It is announced that Viscount •Curzon cancelled two women’s meetings at Battersea in the interest of public safety, owing to the numerous threats of extreme violence by Communists and Socialists.

Polling day in West Derbyshire has been fixed for December 20. The Liberal candidate has not yet been selected.

The eve of polling day finds all parties confident of improving ’their positions. The official Conservative headquarters declared that .given fine weather the Conservatives hoped mot only to maintain their majority, but even increase it.

It is stated at Liberal headquarters the canvass has been very encouraging. Great (Liberal enthusiasm is reported* all ovb» the country. The officials declined to make any forecast, but declared* that if the promises made were fulfilled - everybody was in far 'a big surprise. Labour headquarters the confident they will increase the Party's representation.

Further election rowdyism is reported to-day. The Conservative candidate for Newport, Monmouth, R. J. 'Clarry, and his wiffe were surrounded by a hostile crowd in the docks district. Stones and mud were thrown, and Mrs Clarry was struck by mud and kicked on the leg. Lady Eustace Percy was badly injured after a meeting at Hastings in support of her husband. A crowd of rowdies in the hall interrupted the speeches and later a dense crowd surrounded Lord Eustace’s car. During the confusion (Lady Eustace’s right arm became jammed in the door of the car and was badly bruised. The crowd jeered and showed as the car drove off.

Sir William Prescolt, the Conservative candidate for North Tottenham, who is opposed by Liberal and Labour, abandoned his meetings •owins - fc> rowdyism.
