IZAAK WALTON'S COTTAGE.
Izaak Walton’s flittle fishing cottage at Shallowford, not far from Norton bridge railway station, about six miles from Stafford, is undergoing restoration, says The Times. A restoration committee has been formed, who have purchased the cottage from the authorities at Stafford, entrusted, under Walton’s will, with its care. Pains are being taken to retain the essential features, to impart an old world appearance, and to make the cottage a resort for all “lovers of the angle.” Fortunately the action taken by the restoration committee has enabled the cottage to be saved for the nation. It Jjyould, it is thought, have been a reflection on the loyalty of the angling community if they had permitted its transportation to the United' States. When the roof has been thatched the windows will be glazed with small panes of glass in lead, in accordance willi old pictures. The cottage when restored will consist of six small rooms, three on the first and three on the ground floor. When the work has been completed the cottage will present, as far as it is possible, *a picture approaching that of the cottage in the days when Izaak Walton was in the habit ,of visiting it, and where tradition says he sheltered the persecuted Bishop Morley.
