NOXIOUS WEEDS.

COMPANY FINED £io. At the Coromandel Magistrate’s Court on the 6th inst before Mr J. H. Salmon S. M. the Department of Agriculture proceeded against J. H. Witherford, and Mrs C. E. Parr for allowing noxious weeds gorse and blackberry to grow on their properties. They were fined £2 and costs. The Hauraki Reefs Ltd., for a similar offence were fined £lO and costs. The - company defended the case on the grounds that they only held the mineral rights ' and not occupied the surface and therefoie they contended they were . not liable. The Magistrate held this to be no defence. Mr H. R. Denzie represented the department on the above cases.

FAILURE TO MAKE RETURNS. C. E. Bolton, a. farmer pleaded guilty, to a charge of failing to make annual return of his sheep to the Department. He was fined £1 and costs. Mr J. P. Findlay represented the Department. .
