THE HOUSE. A STONEWALL. (Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Aug. 23. The whole of the afternoon sitting of the House was occupied with formal business. At 7.30 p.m. the Hon. R. F. Bollard moved the second reading of the Gaming Amendment Bill and immediately a debate arose which developed into a stonewall and continued until 5.30 a.m. when the second reading was carried by 56 to 0.

The House then went into committee hut made no progress and finally on the motion of the Premier progress was reported on the understanding that a private conference be held between the conflicting sections on the points at issue which were the increased permits and improved conditions for jockeys and when, if any agreement is reached, the Bill will come up again.

The House rose at 6.40 p.m. till 2.3 p.m. to-day.
