LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 26. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Hon. T. W. Hislop moved the ► second reading of the Justice of the ,i. peace Amendment Bill providing for 9 the appointment of women justices. The debate was adjourned on the motion of the Hon. Topi Patuki. ..... THE HOUSE. In the House the afternoon was spent on formal business and in discussion on Ministers’ replies to questions. The evening sitting was devoted to ■a committee work. The Rent Restriction Amendment, Insurance 'Companies Deposits Amendment, Industrial and Provident Societies’ Amendment Bills were reported without amendment and read a third time and passed. The Immigration Restriction Amendment Bill was amended in the direction of relieving all British subjects from the necessity of taking •the oath of allegiance upon arriving in New Zealand. The Noxious Weeds Amendment Bill, after a stormy pas- * sage, was reported without alteration. All Bills reported as amended •were read the third time and passed, The House rose at 1 a.m.
