FIRES.

HIGH SCHOOL BURNT. BRIGADE HAVE HARD FIGHT. (Press Association.) TAUMARUNUI, By 26. At eight o’clock last night an outbreak of fire was discovered in the District High School buildings. The brigade were quickly on the scene, but the flames already had a good hold on the building, which is one of th e oldest wooden structures in the town. The fire was subdued after •two hours’ strenuous work, hut the major portion of the building was badly gutted. The cause is unknown. The library books and a quantity of stationery and desks were saved, together with tip science room equipment. ’Everything was in order when the headmaster locked the school up at o’clock. The insurances are not available.
