BOARD OF GOVERNORS TO-DAY’S MEETING Tho Board of Governors of th>? Thames High School met this morning. Present —Mr S. A. Hetherington (chairman), Rev. J. Milne, Messrs A. Burns', W .H« Lucas, ,J. Ro\ye, E. F. Adams, E. N. Miller. Tho auditor-general returned the' balance sheet for the year endec' December 31, 1920, duly certified to. The balance sheet was adopted.

Messrs Jenson Bros asked to have an endowment section held by them at Wairongomai transferred to Messrs Pederson and Sons, of Raetihi, the owners of the bush section at the back.

The secretary said that it was only a portion of the lease'and the rent would have to bo approved. ENDOWMENT. Tho clerk of the Piako County Council advised that in the County books the total area of the Board's endowment was 3534 a Or 4p and the capital value £24,970. 1 The chairman said that there were about 2000 acres of very good land.

The secretary reported that the rents from the tenants had come in well.

The Public Works Department advised that the lessees at Wairongomai had agreed to the transmission line Wairongomai to Waihou. crossing the holding. EXCHANGE OF SECTIONS. The Auckland Board advised that the proposed exchange of sections adjoining the Technical School was under consideration;

The Supervisor of Manual and Technical Instruction, fowarded a report sent in by Messrs. A. Burns and J. Farrell.. The Education Board suggested a conference with the Technical School Board and representatives of the Education Board. Mr. Burns and the supervisor would represent the Board. The question of an exchange of properties and the use of buildings could be discussed -at the conference.

The report referred to, after dealing with the sections, recomthat if part of Sec. 363, now used as a tennis court, wei’o needed for technical purposes, it should be let to the High School Board at a nominal rental in the meantime.

. Mr Burns said the question was whether it would be possible to remove the technical school to a site alongside the Power House and so consolidate the technical institutions. The board would get the present site and also the Deep Sinker site; in his opinion, an admirable site for a hostel. The provision of a hostel was becoming more and more urgent and the site was ideal. A round table conferenc could discuss these and allied subjects such as the board taking over control of local technical education. He detailed the transactions in hand. More provision would be necessary for technical education purposes. If the boards met they could discuss, matters amicably a’s they were ali i anxious to further the education of the children.

Mr Lucas supported the proposed conference and moved that the chairman, Messrs E. N. Miller and E. F. Adams and the secretary should represent the board. The resolution was carried. The Haurakv Branch, R.S.A., applied for the use of the grounds for the purposes of an axemen’s carnival on Easter Saturday. The application was referred to the Grounds Committee with power to act. I , EXAMINATIONS. Mr Adams said that the examination results . were particularly pleasing and a credit to the school. Other members agreed. It was decided to write congratulating the headmaster and staff on the successes achieved by pupils at the recent examinations.

It was decided to write congratulating Miss Edna Dynes for coming first in the Public Entrance Examination and Masters > Rudman and Towers on their success in securing National Scholarships. ,
