The largest diamond in the world is the Cullinan diamond, given to King Edward by the Transvaal Government in 190 L The stone was presented to King Edward in token of the loyalty and appreciation of the people of the Transvaal for the bestowal of the constitution on the colony. It was unearthed at the Jaegersfontein mine. Orange River Colony, South Africa, in 1905. In its rough state it weighed 3,025 carats, or 1 1-3 pounds. Amsterdam diamond cutters made nine large stones and several smaller ones from it. The largest still weighs 516 J carats and Is said to be the most valuable and brilliant diamond in human possession to-day.
