USE OF ELECTRICITY.

Ten years ago, fery ,few farmers in Sweden had the assistance of electric power in their operations; by the end of 1920 electricity was used on farms comprising 37 per cent, of the cultivated land in the country, including 22 per cent, on ''which it was used for both light and power. Actually the country districts absorb only a small proportion of the power generated. In 1913, the installations of water-turbine communal authorities, and private companies, amounted to 68,000 h.p., by 1919 the total was 898,000 h.p., of which the state was responsible for 260,000 h.p., local Government bodies for 75,000 h.p., and private'concerns for 289,000 h.p., mainly for distribution, and 274,000 h.p., mainly for their own requirements. .If water power stations with direct electric, working be included, such as wood girders and rolling mills, the total in 1920 was 1,200,000 h.p. At present, further water-power schemes are in course of erection, comprising 355,000 h.p.
