TAPU SHEEP FAIR.

Some 2900 head of sheep were yarded at the Tapu saleyards on Tuesday last, it being the day of the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’s annual fair. A large number of buyers were present. . The quality of the stock offered was very fair, and consequently the prices realised were quite up to expectations. Fat lambs made up to 14. S9d ; store lambs mado up to 14s 3d. Fat ewes realised up to 15s 3d, and store ewes up to 14s 6d. Fat wethers made up to 16s 6d, and store wethers up to 15s 3d.

The. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., Hamilton, report: There was a yery large yarding of stock at the Frankton yards yesterday, the sheep pens being taxed to their utmost capacity. The demand for these was fully equal to the supply, and prices were most satisfactory. Our entry ot sheep totalled 1880, and every line changed hands. The cattle yards were filled with all classes, beef in average' numbers, and grown steers wore represented, and for . tuese there was fair competition. Prices : Fat steers £6 10s to £7 13s, fat cows £4 2s to £5 6s, billable cows £2 18s to £3 9s, store cows £l to £l- i2s 6d. cows in fresh condition £2 2s to £2 12s 6d, 4-year-old steers £4 19s to £6, 3-year-old steers £3 12s to £4 16-month steers £l 17 S > m - s - wean ' ©rs 11s to 15s, Jersey weancr heifers £1 8s to £2 6s. Sheep : Fat lambs ’6s 6d to 22s 6d, forw&rd lambs 12s 6d to 14s 6d, store lambs 6s 3d to 9s 10d, fat wethers 18s Id to 19s 10d, fat ewes 14s 4cl, 4-tooth wethers las 9d to 8s 2d, 4 and 6-tooth ewes 14s 6d, f.m. ewes 14s 2d to 14s 6ri, cull ewes 8s 9d. Pigs were yarded hi large numbers, and also met with a ready sale. Prices: Baconers £3 to £3 15s, porkers £l 9s to £l 19s, slips 14s to 18s, weanersJSs to 12s 6d, pedigree Berkshire boars on‘ account of Mr. F. J. Saxby, 2|gns to 4gns.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton, havo received tho following cablegram from their London house under date of 10th 'instant:— Butter; New Zealand salted £6 18s per cwt to £7 per cwt ; market firm; good demand. Cheese: £4 10s per cwjfkto £5 per cwt; good demand.

The Farmers’ Auctioneering Co., report that at Hamilton on Tuesday they had an extra heavy yarding of sheep and also a good yarding of ■cattle and pigs. The beef was mostly of plain quality and did not reach the previous week’s, values. Practically no steers were penned. Best cows made to £6 13/- for extra heavy weights. Light cows £2 10/to £4. Several good lines of grown steers were penned but competition lacked the spirit of recent sales." Forward condition Sorts realised up to £5 13/-; good stores to £5; smaller cattle from £4 up. A number of pens did not reach reserves. Young cattle were not in strong demand, although a few pens of 18-month steers drew fair bidding, making up to £2 7/- for medium quality. 18-month (in calf) heifers sold at £4 10/-; calves, fair mixed 19/-; smaller sorts from 9/-. Sheep taxed the accommodation of the yards to its limits, and, as anticipated, the supply succeeded in shifting to a certain extent the demand. Although values were easier vendors ■showed a disposition to sell and the bulk of the entry changed hands. A few lots of prime ewes were offered, but not many good wethers. The latter made to 20/6 for. the best, medium from* 17/-. Ewes reached 19/1 for a pen of prime heavy weights; ■small and inferior from 13/6. Forward wethers realised up to 16/for 4-tooth; 2-tooths from 12/- to 14/3. Breeding ewes drew fair competition up to a point but no high figures were recorded. Very few young ewes were penned and these were all small framed. 2-tooth made to 13/7; 4 and 5-year from 13/- to 15/9; aged ewes 9/- to 10/6. Rape lambs showed fair inquiry, making ■up to 12/6 for a nice lot of clean skinned lambs from Glen Murray. A small pen made 13/. Store lambs from 6/6 to 8/6 for medium sorts, smaller from 3/6. Pigs fully maintained last week’s values light weights, but in heavy baconers there was a slight decline. Heavy weights made to £3 19/-; porkers from £2 to £3 3/-. .
