IRISHTOWN SPORTS.

A GALA DAY.

CHILDREN CATERED FOR

On Monday, the residents of Irishtown held a sports meeting. Mr J. Taylor was the moving spirit, and he ■was willingly and capably assisted. Mrs Charlton was the secretary for the day, and gave great assistance in making the gathering a success. Members of the band attended, and the musical programme added considerably to the day’s enjoyment. The sports were held in Mr McGregor’s paddock, and the attendance must have totalled between 200 and 300. The ladies provided afternoon tea, and everyone worked enthusiastically to make the outing a pleasant one. The prizes were, for the most part, in kind. The little girls got, perhaps, handkerchiefs or picture tickets; the boys a bucket_of plums, or vegetables, or pocket knives; one lucky lad won a bottle of lemon squash. The ladies raced for pairs of slippers or joints of meat, handkerchiefs, a sack of coal, or a bunch of fish. The men beat records for a shirt or a pipe, and all enjoyed themselves to the full. -The results were: —
