WATER SUPPLY.
CLEANING THE RACE.' At tho present time the foreman of the Thames County Council, Mr. J. Hodge, has a gang of n5Sn busily engaged repairing and cleaning the water-race. Along its whole length the race is being given a complete overhaul. The iron work is being replaced in parts, and the woodwork, especially jvhere auxiliary supplies enter the race, is being scrubbed. The men are working in tho tunnels also. The necessity for maintaining a sufficient supply of water for town nebcin impedes the work. Every evening the water is turned on at the intake, and turned off again early in the morning. To-morrow a start will be made to clean tho reservoir. The water will be off at the Waiokaraka reservoir from 4 a.m. till 2 p.m. At an early hour 10 or 12 men will start on tho reservoir, and every effort made to complete the work as soon as possible.
