LATEST AMENDMENTS. URGENT SALES AND HOURS. (From Own Correspon.ri«»r.it.) PARLIAMENT BLDGS. Dec. 21. The Shops and Offices Act was reported upon by tho Labour Bills' Committee to-day. The alterations made by tho. committee are fairly numerous, but, with a few excep tions, are not of great importance. The clause proposing that, where a shop was closed on Good Friday and Easter Saturday and Monday, and no assistants were employed on any of those daj's tho shop might remain open on tho Wednesday and Thursday before Good Friday until nine o'clock at night, • has been struck out. A v new clauso -declares that it shall not be unlawful for tho occupier of a shop, during the hours in which it is closed, to re-open for the purpose of selling motor spirit, oil or motor accessories in cases of urgency, if he opens it only for that purpose, closes it immediately the salo is effected, and keeps the door locked savo for tho adnussion and exit of that particular customer. - ' In the Bill, as introduced, it was proposed that malo employees in 'restaurants, who are over 16 years of age, should-be employable for 54hour week of not more than i(f hours in any ono day, exclusive of meal hours. The committee has reduced this to 48 hours a week", and a nine-hour day. It also stipulates that a woman, or girl, shall not be employed in. or about a restaurant after 10 o'clock at night under any condition*-
