AUSTRALIAN FLEET.
/ " POLICING THE PACIFIC, (A. and N.Z. Cable.) (Received 10.45 a.m.) , SYDNEY, October 13. The Sydney Morning Herald states that it is proposed to scrap the local navy, utilising the money saved in the construction of docks and bases .as part of a scheme to police tho South Pacific with a strong British fleet, which will bo based on Singapore. Iti is further stated that tho Australian vessels are obsolete, and it is beyond Australian financial resources to provide an efficient fleet.
