MINING.

OHINEMLTRI GOLD AND MINES. “We are putting the cross-cut through, on the advice of Mr. Stansfield, in order to cut the Caniooki reef, 200 feet below the present workings on the same.” writes the manager, “and en route have come across several large reef-carrying values. The last reef intersected was 21ft wide, good, clean quartz, and a sample taken over 12ft 3in assayed 28oz ldwt silvei’, and 2dwt gold, and valued at £4 12/- per ton. Other assays taken indicate that this cut will be a valuable one when it is developed, but we are at present driving to intersect the Camoola reef.” DEARLE’S CREEK. No fresh developments are reported respecting the stated find of gold in Dearie’s Creek, but it is understood that several additional claims have been pegged out. , Samples of the quartz, I hear, have been sent to Waihi to be assayed, and apparently, much depends upon the assayer’s report. Dearie’s Creek is situated in the' hills, behind the Mangaiti Station, and the spot where the find was first made is not far from the Tui mines. EVENING STAR, Mr. J. Smith, the manager, reports that he is still sinking the Waio-=7 tahi-Cambria reef, and is down 37ftT below the level, being 120 ft from the surface. The reef exposed is now 4ft, with no walls showing. The ore is heavily mineralised, and shows nice colours of gold. They are now 12ft down on Bird’s leader, and 171 b of picked stone was secured last .week. The engine lately installed is working well, and giving every satisfaction, and is great facilitating the work. The leader is' still following the winze as they go down. The general dirt secured is kindly, and should crush well. WAITANGI CONSOLIDATED GOLD MINING COMPANY (NO’ LIABILITY). The mine manager (Mr. J.. Caisley), reports: —, “Driving ahead on the main reef at No. 2 level was . resumed this week, an advance of three feet being made, which makes a total distance of 1035 feet driven from No. 2 main rise. “The reef formation is wider than the drive, but is partly mixed with pountry rock, which is" almost as hard as the quartz, and is difficult for both drilling and shooting. The hanging wall portion of the reef is very favourable, and is carrying some nice minerals. “In the rise above No.-2 level| progress for the week is four feet/making a total of 36 feet. The reef at this place looks very promising, particularly near the hanging wall where strong colours of gold can be seen in the mineral veins.”
