WOMEN CATTLE JUDGES
INNOVATION AT HOME. A striking feature of the post-war agricultural shows is the rise of women, to authoritative positions in these events.
This year the innovation was made at the Northamptonshire show of asking a woman to judge cattle. She was Mrs. Brown, of Haydon Hill, Aylesbury, Bucks, who judged riie British Friesians, in which she is a recognised expert.
At the Suffolk County Show Mrs. Evelyn, of Dorking, judged Jersey cattle. Women are to rule in the judging ring at several future shows.
Women are chosen now almost exclusively to direct butter-making contests and judge the produce. To the astonishment of. great numbers of visitors in the showyards comparatively frail girls are now seen leading massive bulls before the judges, the powerful animals walking round and round with their girl guides as docilely as pet dogs.. Those stockowners who have skilled women helpers have found that tho latter have a way with farm animals in the show ring which makes for success.
