The registration of Maoris under th 1© Military Service Act is now almost' complete, and as. soon as the renuuning returns come in and the register is : compiled it will be possible" to brin? the Act into operation as applied to /Maoris. The Minister for Defence said that; unless the Maoris in the Waikata enlisted voluntarily, as the; othor tribes bad done,, it would be necessary to jbTing the Act' into- operation. He hoped that this, would not be necessary, but be considered that iti was hia duty to se© that tb«re was fair, play among the .'different tribes of natives. The. number of reinforcements required is 75,m<m per month.
