VIOLENCE OF AHACKS
LONDON, March 25-
Sir Douglas Haig report*: —Fresh hostile attacks were made this morning in great strength on the whole front, ,a.nd continued all day. Southward of Perorvne tihe enemy crossed tihe. Somme at certain points, and there-are being dealt with. The enemy's attacks.., north of] Peronne were of the greatest violence •againfet the line of the Tbrtille river. Our troops in this area were withdrawn, fighting to new positions. Further north we repulsed repeat- j ©d assaults by large bodies, inflicting heavy losses. In this fighting the seventh and fortieth divisions great- j ly distrmruished themselves, beating ofi many attacks. ARTILLERY ACTIVITY. A French communique says: — There is intermittent artillery .activity north of Cheuiin dcs Dariies, | a.nd occasionally violent duels on the Champagnte heights on tihe right of the Meuse, between Oourieres wood Bezonvaux, Hartmanns, and Weiler-kopf.-—A. and N.Z.
