NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
TELE PRICE OF THE STAR.
With regard to the recent increase in the costo of newspapers in Auckland Province, we desire to make it clear that ihis has been forced upon the. newspaper proprietors solely through thiei increased cost of paper, due to the war. ;
For a long period, while the cost was steadily rising, the newspaper proprietors refrained from, increasing the price, though in the Soufh this was done a year ago. Paper is now however costing 300 per cent more than it did formerly. Thus a ream of paper formerly obtainable for 7s 6d, cannot now be got under 22s lOd. At this figure the formes price of a newspaper did not pay for the paper used, and the increased charge now made has become imperative.
It is the intention of the proprietor of the Thames Star to reduce tine price to the original sum of one penny as soon as the cost of paper falls to a more reasonable figure.
Under these circumstances we trust the Th'amea public -will view the /matter in a reasonable light, and not allow the rise in price to restrict their patronage, seeing \ that thie extra charge has not been made with any idea of exploitation, bub is solely due to force of circumstances.
