The annual meeting of subscribers to tha School of Mines for the election of President and Council, the presentation oi certificates, prizes, etc., will be held at the School on Wednesday evening next at 7.30. The director, Mr Baker, will deliver a popular lecture —"Natural Resources."

An envelope received by the last mail from Gfttsgow accenuates the paper shortage thati is being experienced in the Old Country. The inside of the envelops was found to contain illustrations, which showed that it was made from a pago from an illustrated paper, which had been printed on one side only.
An idea of how the petrol shortage in England is forcing motoristsjto the use of coal gas as a substitute, can be gathered from the fact that on© of the big makers oi gas containers in England had nearly 8000 orders in hand when tftie last mail left. The use of coal gas is now threatening to assume such proportions Hhat in some quarters fear is expressed that even this substitute may be limited by the Government.
