A vote of sympathy with Mr. Baker in hie. recent bereavement, was carried at the Hospital Board meeting, on the motion of the chairman. At the Hospital Board meeting last night, -the chairman warmly welcomed the new member®, and congratulated the old ones on being again elected. The new members would no doubt prove to be real hard earnest workers. The board had always in the past conducted its meetings harmoniously, and he hoped the same goofl feeling* would continue. The various members referred t©i thanked* the chairman, for his remarks. . I An account from^, the Waihi Hospital for £132 Os 8d was presented at last night's meeting, of the Hospital Board for the. treatment of patients belonging to this' district. The chairman contended that those who were able to travel should come to their own district hospital, and that Waihi should only take in urgent eases; The Waihi Board had previously been notified' to that effect. Those who could not pay should certainly come'to their own hospital. Instead.of that, they went to Waihi, and this board had to pay for them. It was decided 1 that' copies of the account be sent to rfiembers, who could examine the various items, and advise the ■ secretary what amounts could be paid by the people concerned.

One of the new members of the Hospital Board, Mr. Kennedy, at last night's meeting brought up the question of .remuneration of the nurses, whom he considered were very poorly paid. The chairman, said they were paid equally: as well v-s anywhere else, though personally he did not think they were getting enough. In consequence of this, the board had only recently made a special grant to the nurses for clothnig. About 12' months ago, the Health Department had been written .toon the question of payment of nursee, and a reply had been received that the matter was being gone into with the view of arranging a. uniform sicale. Since then nothing had been heard of the matter, but when he went to Wellington ..shortly he would again bring the question under the attention of the Minister. . ■ I NoVioes of applications for transfer of publicans' licenses: are adver- ; tised, the Shortland and the Royal Hotels beiing the housies concerned.
