Thel other clauses {•■were passed, and pi-ogress reported I on the Bill.

The Council decided to adhere to the amendments mad© in the" Expeditionary Forces Amendment Bill, and appointed Sir Francis Belli and the Hons. Messrs Carson, Moore,. and Harr as managers to meet the House of Representatives. A motion of appreciation of the kite; Hon. W. Beehan wasi passed, and the Council adjourned for the afternoon in toiken of respect. In £ha House of Represent!ati,ves it was decided to disagree with thd amendments! made by the Legiisla-, tive Council in the Legislation Bill regarding the retiring' allowance® of civil eervante compulsory retained in the service. Messrs Herdman, Parr, Veitch and Buddo were appointed managers to confer with the Counril.

Sir Jas. Allen moved that the; amemdmeints made by the Legislative Council in the Expeditionary Forces Amendment Bill, eliminating 1 the exemption of clergy and teachers, be* disagreed with, on the ground that the amendment was not in the bast intereisitei of the country. Mr Massey, Sir J. Ward, Sir J. Findl&y, and the mover were apr pointed managers to confer with the Council. The House adjourned at 3.35 a® a. mark o-f respect to the memory of the late Hon. Willia.m Beehan, a former memibei' of the Llegislative Council.

At 9.35 p.m. thel managers returned and the Speaker reported that they bad been unable to come to an agreement. Sir Jas. Allan moved itihat ' a 'freieh conference; be asikfid far, and the Hong.
