THE CHARGE AGAINST A SOLICITOR
_* WELLINGTON, October 29 At th© appeal court to-day, Mr. Gray, K.C., 'in opening tihe "defence for Mr. Beard, charged with, unprofessional conduct, submitted that until this charge his client! had borne an honoured name, and while admitting that he had, acquired an interest in Kerehoma's land the court rimst find some deliberate fraud on his part to bring him under jurisdiction. Much of the evidence .given was (against Chennell's, and' not against Beard. He continued that outside formal affidavits those making them were either interested or seeking to justify their own acts. He also pointed out 'that Kerehoma had I not supported the law society's , action. Mr. Gray claimed that there was nothing to suggest that Beard ikn&w Kerehoma was improvident.
