THAMES BOWLING CLUB.
OPENING OF GREEN AND CROQUET LAWN. Despite the wintriness of the weather on Saturday, the ground was sufficiently dry to warrant the committee in carrying out their intention of opening the greens. j Owing to the war it had been wisely decided that the ceremony should be quite formal, and it was only a small gioup of enthusiasts who faced the President, Mr G. Orbell, as in a few well-chosen remarks he declared the green open and called upon Mrs Mackay, wifo of the retiring President, to throw the jack according to ancient custom. An adjournment was then made to the croquet lawn, where at Mr Orbell's invitation, Mrs R. R. Lloyd, President, of the Ladies' Club, played the first shot of the season. , Play then proceeded as usual, and at the interval, afternoon tea. was provided by-the ladies. ! j' The bowlers, made up two rinks 1—■ the teams being captained respectively by the President and Mr E. Cartwright, the ex-President (Mr D. Mac- ; kay), and Mr E. Wfiifishead. Tho scores wore: No. 3 rink: Messrs Davies,~W..J. Adams, Pratt, Orbell (skip) 28; v. Messi*s G.
