When a domand arises for ay <ucle, and if to© supply should not c$ uite equal to the demand, it creates scarcity,' consequently higher prices. English ideas and customs have, been introduced, into the Orient, and are spreading rapidly this, along with the world's increasing population, has «ause<. an extra demand for all kinds of food, et»., and as the producing aroa has not increased correspondingly, it at once reflects on the producing1 countries, and raises ■rice*. Great Britain ii Who only free trade country of any imjportanice in the world. In Great Britain, only a few days ago, a Commission wairapointed to inquire into the reasons srhy the cost of living liad increased, hag been officially Btat&d, while the coßt of living increased 50 per tent during the last 26 years, wages had only inoreased !15 per cent for the same period, so it is olmous taxing tho land will not reduce the cost of living, nor increawe the workers' ages/ and the only .remedy for Great ritain! is Protection...; . .
The Orient has, and is erecting, uge > industries equipped with modern machinery worker, and to V$ iwith Austio labour. The question suggests itself to my people—how an any English-speaking country cope with., this menace unless amply protected to save our ndustries and wage-earners from being brought down to ihe Asiatio level,.
The Single Tax theory ;1s absolutely one tax on the land and free rade. It is apparen ■'. it would not lassen the cost of production, but reduce wages to cope with- Asiatic labour, augmented wit hmodern machinery. There is still hope as I am credibly informed the success of the Single. Tax policy will deepnd upon ttie world adopting it; this ought to ensure safety for a time. -, IXuring my varied experience I found that quack recipes were .harmful to1 those with imaiginairy ailments, but they j^ave the option of becoming well and remaining here if they will follow my advice. I strongly advise my people, and the imaginary sufferers, to feast upoa' the well known n*.,ipes, prosperity, and longevity, etc., yii.:—< Ample protection on~tbihg& ■ *ye -cab produce, 1 and good < wages—"GH-AM-P(EON MfUSOLiE^BAiTSBR, FLOUE" »nd "STANDARD" OATMEAL and ROLLED OATS.
