SYDNEY,' June 24
The Herald referring to the annexation of Wailis and Futuna Islands, German possessions in South Pacific near Samoa, says: Ib is said with truth that in the" Pacific we lost footr hold after foothold. More than half the groups in Oceania first evangelised by British missionaries, have now fallen into foreign hands. Tonga is now the only other protectorate of importance and there are many who believe that Britain's delay in annexing this" group may be dangerous and the wisest policy would be to hoist tie flag at once. If those great, colonial Imperialists Sir George Grey and Sir Henry Parkes had had their way, the British flag 1 might to-day be flying; across the Pacific from east to Avest and for all these islands might have been ours.
