DISCONTENTED POLICE.
MIXISTEIRi OF JUSTICE SPEAKS OWT.
WILL, NOT TOLERATE INTERr FEIREINCE! OF LABOR LEIADEU.
(Pca 1 Press Association.)
AiUiOKLiA.NI?, May 7. Hon. Mr Herdman interviewed on
he subject of reported discontent
among the police force, declared that if this state of affairs at Auckland as reported in the local papers is true theii the position is serious and will necessitate firm handling immediately. He cannot understand the present alleged unrest and says, "I don't believe it is widespread. From what appeared in the press I gather
that Mr Rosser, well known in Auckland labour circles, has been getting 1 into touch with junior men with a, view to forming an association. Ii
may say at once this sort of thing will not be tolerated and in the event of labour troulbles happening 1 the police must be under direct control of the Commissioner and the Government, «o I shall not permit
any labour leader to interfere with the discipline of the force. Efvery facility will, and has been, given to members of the force to state their-grievances, but! a rebellion will not be put up with."
