Silver brushes are best cleaned by immersing them in ammonia or borax water.
To prevent linen frpni turning, yellow when stored away, wrap in dark blue paper.
If soot falls on the carpet, cover it thickly w,ith dry salt. Then sweep it up quickly, and it will leave no stain.
Rub sewing machine stains with lard. Let stand for several hours. Then wash with cold water and soaip.
Wlien creaming butter and sugar for a cake beat with a fork instead of a spooiu The work will thereby be hastened.
Wash combs in borax or ammonia water, rinse in cold water and wipe dry. Combs should never be soaked or left wet.
To remove the grease in the drainpipe of a sink kerosene should be used at least once a month.
I To mend oilcloth if torn or cut, lay a piece of: sticking-plaster undern'etitlr, sticky side up and brin|«! £he edges close together. To remove iron-niculd, cover the spot thickly with cream of tartar, twist cloth to keep it on the place and put it in a saucepan of cold water. Bring to the boil slowly and the rust marks will disappear. To remove a .fishbone from' the throat, cut a lemon in half and suck the jm'ce slowly. This! will dissolve the fishbone mnd . give instant relief.
