PROGRESSIVE TOWNS,

visited Ngaruawahia and gave some

interesting details with reference to the benefits to be derived from ) electri lighting. He is at prey sent engaged in installing a lighting plant at Frankton. Questioned as to the cost of fixtures and installing lights into dwellings and businass premises, he stated that about thirty shillings per light, covered the whole expenditure; this included of course thfe globe and new metallic burners. A reduction, however, is made in th<e case of ai building where a. number of lights, were required. -Be advocated the erelotion of a; good sized plant, as his experience was th.at.th 3 j tendency was always to enlarge after J a short trial of the service. Mr Fenn i predicted thait ere long electricity would far 'outstrip all competition in this ■ respelot, by reason of the many advantages it held over all other schemes, including immunity from danger of fire, the manifold uses that it can 'be put to in the household, such as cooking, ironing, etc., involving no trouble or exertion, beyond the pressure of a button.
