THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL.
TO-DAY'S MEETING-.
At to-day's meeting of the Thames 'County Council, Mr R. W. Bagnall (Chairman) presiding, there wore present Clrs. T. Killgoui", T. Coopor, iS>. Bax, J. McC'ormack/. W Baker. Ki. Law, A,. Adams, and W. J3eebile. The Oounty Oerk (Mr \Y. S. Clark) and Engineer (Mr.Ki. H. Muir) were also in attendaivcie.
—'Board of Works —
The minutes of the last,, meeting of the Board of Works Cbmmktec wore read and confirmed.
—-Tenders.—■
The following tenders -were roceiv ed and dealt with as noted: —
Lease Quarry Reserv-s lotara Point (5 years).—E. Deoblo £9 10s (acteepted), W. Taylor £5 2s 6d.'

—Wharepoa Ferry.—
The caretaker of the Wharepoa Ferry (Mr G. Fairburn) forwarded his resignation and theft 'subsequent ly withdrew it.
Or. Cooper said that Mr J/airburn was quite willing to oarvy on provided tlie punt was made safe and secure.
Or. Bax thought that a comHlt-e should be set up to consider the application, before dealing with other tenders.
On-. Law thought thai till the applications should be ..-considered. The following applied for the position : F. W.' Beunet, J. Law, 0. Bennett, P. O'Birien, C Odium.
Or. Deeble moved lh<U Mr J. Law be appointed. The applicant had agreed to build p.. boat and make necessary repairs, and- the- County would" be the gainer*.
'Or. McOormaok ?tconded, and C.V. Bax supported, saying that a boat was absolutely necessity. Other councillors also favoured Mr Law's appointment. and on the motion being put io ih<.> meeting it w».s carried unaniniriuwly.
A petition was forwarded to '■ c Council by residents asking thai some improvement be made to the ferry, to ensure against accidents, and suggested that a movable fartition be put on the punt so us to
divide cattle equally on t.ur'.i '■■■>' and that the punt should bs wid-
ened,
The Chairman favoured the former suggestion, but not the latter, baring that no matter how wide, punt would be liable to upset if kept sti'aight across the river against the tide, and thought that the p\mt should be at an angle.
Or. Bax moved that a > a "• ■ be set up to visit the ferry and proposed the Chairman, Cr. Co .per, and himself.
—Electric- Lighting.—
Re the above, the Chairman read the Act referring to the Council's power and restrictions in electric lighting. Clr. Adams thought it -would be \ pity that the (County Water should be running to waste at night, Avhil-3 the Borough would have to use oil and gas "for its electric light-ng scheme.
The Boroudi Council's letter asking the County Council to giant permission to the Borough to exttnd electric lines in, the County for the purpose of installing electricity was read.
The Chairman moved to the effect that a committee go fully into thf ;ruatter and report to the next meeting. Seconded by Cr. Deeble and xau*ried. The Chairman thought the solicitor should be communicated w th to see what the County were liable to, as the matter requires cartful consideration.
Seconded by Or. Killgour and carried.
—'Dredging Compan}'.—
Mr H. H. Adams Wrote stating he would bf responsible for the wat^v used in th.c above company's, works from May 24.-th to July sth.

The Leyland-O'Brien Co. notified the Council of its intention to apply to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for the above over the Te Mata rivei* in the Thames County and to c nstracit di'ains as per plans a 4 the office of the Commissioner at Auckland aaicl stating that any ej.jeition must be lodged ■with theCommissioner not ater than 14 Oa/s after the date of notice.
The 'Chairman said that he had. , informied the Clerk, to write to the Comimiissioner asking him to protect, j the Council's interest. The action of the Chairman was^ j approved. ! —Drowning of Cattle.—■ v ! Mi' Ev R.
