Light'rain fell during the match, and the Pay's Bay ground Avas a trifle slippery and got heavier as the game proceeded. F'rbmi the start it became apparent that Canterbury men were mi perfect condition, and they sectored victory after a splendidly contested game.

Auckland was allotted the next match for the hockey shield, but it is doubtful if n. tep.m will be sent as far afield at OLristcihurfcih, though it was the association's intention to send thie eleven to Wellington had the capital city retained the shield.
