A PECULIAR CASE.

A oase presenting Some peculiar featulres Was heard before the Magistrate (Mr Burgess) today, when a resident of Kerepeehi, fiauraiki Plains, which is situated 1 in the Ohinemuri, no-lio ense area, was charged! with sending an order for liquor without forwarding his address in writing, his name being Thomas H. Eivans. Tlie police in the course of their investigations found am order signed T. H. Evans which formed the basis olf the charge. DefeiV t denied ail knowledge of the order uhi'dh he despaired to t-e a: forgery. The la|sifc order he had given to the hotelkeeper who supplied the order connected with the present charge, was 'Christmas. Defendiaiit at the order of the dfourfc wrote his ordinary signature, which on being compared, was declared to be unlike the signature on the order -iroduced in court. The Magistrate eaidi the polide had failed to prove that defendant was the man who forwarded the oiridei* or that he had signed it. It was evidently a ease of forgery. The information was dismissed, but the police are making further inquiries, and' mere vill probably be heard of the matter. It was stated that large, ■quantities of liqiior are being forwarded' from Thames to noi-lieiense areas,
