j The counter-revoluli:n organL-1 by the Portuguese Royalists against the new '.Republic has reached an acute stage, and a big b.if+le is anticipated shortly, the armies .:i both side s being- massed on the frontier.
The Government army, 5000 strong, and armed with 20 field and mountain guns, is awaiting an attack by {.lie Monarchists whoso forces aro estimated at 5000,whi!e they have 40 guns, mostly Maxims.
Two aeroplanes belonging la the Monarchists are constantly flying over the Republican camp, -which is situated tit Chavcs, ti few miles from the north era frontier of Portujjal. Tho d<slay in the attack is attributed to tho Belief that the Monarchists are awaiting halt a million sterling from Kngland.
