At the Hutt local otption poll enquiry tio^day a witniess, who was -a scrutineer tft the Lower Hutt booth, said he. saw F.qupr a,t that booth. He" heaird a tap at the Tvinid!ow, and sa.«v a,n hotclkeeper with a jug of 'beer, which he handed in, aod five glasses of beer at least were drunk.
Counsel for respondent objected to the evidence on the gi nound that the nuittor was not specifically lnentioaedi in the petition* and the olbject on was upheld.
A!noither_jwitness stated that; ho saw bottles brought into the booth. He had no means* of v aseertainiug whether the bottles' contained -whisky, but he smelt liquor mi. the Ibooth. A th'rd witness ■deposed -that, he saw Mr 'Palmer, a publician, ■ come into t"he booth duringi the polling with a hamper, a.nd~ heard him* Temnvk that there was liquor at the back of the hall if-'anyone 1 cared to go round for it.
