Strong colours of,gold have been obtaiinedi in 'the bottom, of the winze which is beinijr sunk below the 220 ft level oni the 'iNtew Yeair reef in the Oid Haiuraki nuinie. A oroasicut is being driven from the 300 ft level* to meet the winze, and the country: is of a moat. •. fayouirable character. Where the 'gold was obtained' in the winze is about 'Jialf way .'between the 220 ft. level and where the bro'sisivi.t will initersect the ree.f. The drive south-east of (No. 8 reef is in an excellent channel of country. In. the r'.se on (INo. 21 reeif south of- thei^eid winze^the reef averages SiiJi, ond^ifair prospects of igold have been got by crusiliiinig: and dish washing.
