(Per United Press Association.) MELBOURNE, June 9. Evideutly robbery w;as the motive for the murder of Mr Bauer. He had the habit of carrying a bag containing thousands of pounds worth of precious stones and pearls, and depositing it in the l>ank over night. This bag is missing. It is stated it contained gems worth £2000 or £3000. There are indications that he was struck down when weighing a diamond on the scales on hia office foible*. His hat was pierced where the fatal blows struck. Mr Bauer was a partner in the firm of Bauer* Sha,umer, and Bauer, importers and dealers in precious stones, doing a very large business throughout Australasia.
