Mr Spi'o-ul, ■manager of the Oceania Company, says titoe rejection of the American Shipping 'Subsidy Bill will not affecib the determination of the company to place tbe 'Friscoi service ,on a thoroughly satisfactory basis. 'The, defeat of the Bill haid 'been re-1 warded a,s a foregone conclusion, and the surprise was raitih.er that the defeat I I had been so narrow. Another Bill, the passing of which j was regarded asi. practically certain ! would provide increased! subsidies to companies now engaged in oversea, mail services, including an American lino on the Atlantic ainji the Oceanic Company and Pacific" Mail Companies on the Pacific.
