WAIHI GOLD MINING COMPANY.
Regarding a numour cm rent that a subsidence had tiken plaeei in the Waihi mine, Mr C. Rhodes, tho attorney and local dieter of the company say& that the damage referred to is not in the mine, but on the surfaoa in. the new railway cutting now under construction' to the No 6 shaft. Tho material in this cutting is very clayey, so much' so that some time since it had to fo& discarded -ai "filling 1" for the mine, being too soft. The recent iiieavy rains naturally affected this mullock more than ordinary sandstone, and causedl onia of the banks of the railway - cutting to slip in, leaving cracks in the surface behind], which would no doulbb have produced further 1 smaller" slips if the rain had continued.' Tlio damiage done is of no mining importance. It was. of course, impossible with °uch severe weather thait any concern with s.uoh large outdoor operations as those of the Wai'hi company could escape without some loss fro ml flood damages!.
