May Queen shares have steadily improved in value, and to-day exchanges were made at 2s 7d and 2s Bd, with good buyers at 2s 7d. The old Deep Sinker machinery has been found to be in good condition and all works well except the bottom plunger, which is out of goal*. Moanaiaiari shares are coming into better demand and sales were made at 2s 5d and 2s 4d, there being further buyers at the latter price at the close. Waiotahi shares were again active to-day, exchanges being made at 63s 6d, 62s 6d, 635, and 625, while at the close there were buyers at G2a 3d, but no response from sellers. The Registrar of Electors requeue j all persons for whom claims for enrolment have been left by the official canvassers to return same to him duly filled in, and signatures witnessed, us soon as possible. There wasi a large attendance at the Miners' Union Hall last night when the Battalion Band held an extended promenade concert. The musio supplied by Mr and Mrs A. Martin and Bandmaster Clarke, was all that could be desired, the catering by Mr A. Billings was excellent. Bandsman R. W. Wilson was M.C. Miss McCormick won the nail driving competition, while Miss M. Potts secured the booby prize. Duets were rendered by Mr and Miss Hardman, Master and Miss Gordon, solos by Miss A. Potts and Gill, and Mfc1 Kirby, while Mr Oswald contributed a recitation.
A Press Association telegram from Dunedin reports that at the Police Court. Walter Attewells, Robert Augustus Palmer, and William Jones were remanded on charges of vagrancy, as other charges are pending. The detectives discovered a plant of jewellery where the men resided, and the articles have been recognised as having been stolen from three different houses during the past few days. Fresh developments are expected within a few days. Finger-prints of the. accused have been sent to the Wellington bureau for examination and- comparison.
