The manager reports:—The cor* tractors completed the timbering of the No. 4 level crosscut on, Wednesday last, and since then Save bsen engaged in the further extension of the driv© towards the Waiotahi raoi! having driven 24ft since starting tha new contract, making a totnl of 484 ft from the Victoria shaft. There is no change in the nature of the country penetrated. Sloping operations, on the leader (No. 1 level) in the hangingwatl of the Mariner'B reef, are still in propress, and the country penetratpd ood.tinues to be of a good ' desoription, congenial for gold. The leader maintains its width, of about iln, and shows a few nicei colours and iabs of gold when broken down. Fnving operations at the intermediate above the No. 1 level are being proceeded with, the country penetritea being still of a good description for the existence of gold. The reef coniiins minerals of a favourable -haracter.
