Mr Seddon, referring to rifle clubs, said that, as Minister for Defence, he looked upon the rifle clubs as of great importance in the defence of the colony. They now had a status and concessions which were not given to them previously, but he did not agree with them having the same right in regard to railway passes as the volunteers. He would venture to say that there was no country within the Postal Union where they had so many post officesi im proportion as in New Zear land.—Mr Hall-Jones. This can only be construed as a. dig at the Opposition proper, who had so far kept aloof from the fray.
