The Thames Star. Resurrexi. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER. 22, 1902. BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

We have from time to time had references to the movement in Dunedin inaugurated by the Presbyterian Church to ascertain,, by means of a plebiscite, the opinion of the people on the Bijale in schools question. The Cbristohureh Truth says that "out of 25,000 eligible voters, a plebiscite organised by the party showed a record of 6000 votes in support of the movement. We shall be told, that this is a. great victory, and that the opponents of the movement are scattered and shattered and left prostrate. The plebiscite also revealed. 1000 people who absolutely object to any tinkering by ignorant fanatics with our secular education. The Roman Catholics did) not vote ati all, as, of course, they were not visited by canvassers whose business it was to get "ayes." The people who* didl not vote may be claimed as opponents of the movement. The Meddlers may thiiruk them, apathetic and indifferent, but if a referendum were ordered by the Executive we prophesy a completely paralysing roar of "Noes." The plebiscite is a farce whatever way one looks at i(ti Iti merely amounts to a list of the paltry, minority, wihoi are so dumbly confident in! the ill-informed Meddlers as to expose their futility. Anyway, these plebiscites do no harm. They may afford some joy to** their organisers, but they do not amount to anything. The efforts of their promoters are the 'efforts of t'hie squirrel in the cage—a mighty' deal of running in ' the firm belief that leagues of progress have been made. .
