A strong and cold southerly wind ■was blowing, with passing showers, for the opening day of the Avondale Racing Club's rca.es. The! attendance is good, but the course is heavy owing, to the wet. Results': — MAIDEN PLATE, 6 furlongs. Romeo 1 Strathavon 2 Sly Miss 3 •Wonl easily by Itfareei lengths, a length Detween second and third. Time, lmin 23secs. Dividends, £2 15a and £o Is. The scratch'n.gs were Seatonia, Gold Web, St. Rowan and La Polish, v HANDICAP HURDLE RACE, two miles. Maa-s (Stewart) 1 Tim (McGregor) 2 Ccmnongate (Fergus) 3 Scratched : Dingo. Bellman led, for a mile a.nd three furlongs, when he fell. Sirdar also fell. Commodore and Winsome baulked. Mars, won easily by four lengths, the same distance between second and third. Time, 4min 13seos. Dividends,- £-3 9s and £2 10s.
