The Wellington Reception.

WELLINGTON, This Day. The weather is still broken, and although the enthusiasm is still great, the succession of wet days-is having its effect on the people. The Government are taking the lead, in. the entertainment*, and so far all things hate been done in order, and successfully. The dinner latft night t» the visiting representatives of the English and Colonial Press, and the representatives of the adjoining colonies, was a politic move. -
The Premier has treated the Press people, well, ,and no doubt the policy will bear fruit some day. The cost Parliament is not likely to grumble about, even if it is charged to the advertising account.
At 11.45 Their Royal Highnesses left Government House and proceeded to the site of the new Government Rajlway offices, where the Duke laid the foundation stone. .■■■..
The departure of, the Royal parly was witriessed by a large crowd.. At i o'clock the Ophir drew off the wharf, and as soon as she, was turned head to the sea,, the batteries at Fort Ballance opened with a Royal salute, which was responded to by the Station squadron of warships. ' The Duke v has remarked repeatedly how gratified himself and the Duchess were with the heartiness of the welcome j given them in Wellington. "
Their affability and readiness to take the parts allotted -jto -them in the programme bas completely won the hearts of the people*
