The • prospects of its adoption were, 'however, by no means near. To him it was amazing that the foremost commercial nation in the world should be so slow to adopt a system which has been approved, and to a greater or less extent- accepted, by every other nation in Europe. He hoped the Chamber would press upon the Government the desirability of introducing the system.
