THE THAMES VISIT.

ARRANGEMENTS BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL

That the Thames County Council intend to take full advantage of the forthcoming visit o£ the Hon T Duncan, Minister of Lands, and to do whatever is possible to further fche interests of the district, was evidenced at last night's committee meeting of the Council. . '

The Chairman (Mr T. A. Punlop) informed the councillors present that the Hon. Mr McGowan had te'egraphed that the Hon. T. Duncan himself, arid party would reach Thames about Monday. .. What was intended was tiiat the Ministerial party should be conveyed up the Piako river as far as possible, and there an inspection would be made. The speaker was of opinion that invitations should be extended to some of the'principal settlers to join the party, and the opinions of those acquainted with the important question of drainage might also be obtained. Nothing, definite could be arranged however until it was ascertained the exact date of arrival and the time that the party intended to remain. If time permitted -.he suggested that the first day should be occupied in the visit to the Piako, returning the same day On the second day they could arrange to drive the Ministers through Matatoke and other districts.

Councillors expressed their approval of the preliminary programme as outlined by the Chaiunan, and the opinion .was given that the steamer I'atiki should be chartered for the Piako visic
