In the House of Commons Lord Gran>bourno saiid the question of the future protection of the legations in Pekin was still undecided as far as Great Britain was* concerned! The Chancellor of the Exchequer stated he was unable to indicate the date the Budget speech would be delivered. The haste to ' evade taxation was: possibly premature:
Sir John Brodrick in the (founions promised drastic reforms in the army medical srvice. He stated he hoped by the ■ end of March to nave the increased mounted forces with Lord Kitchener in South Africa and to the extent required. During die last lhre«months besides the thirteen thousand horses sent from England, there bad been thirty thousand despatched to South Africa from other sources.
